Virtual Furniture

The thing that excited me most about these furniture apps is how much easy they make it for us to try every type of furniture at our place before finally deciding on the desired piece. I was really impressed by how easily they place the furniture in your room just by pointing the camera at a spot. It's amazing how an augmented 3D model is placed in your room in a jiffy. Below are the few points I liked about these apps.

Freedom to try furniture:-

These apps give us great freedom with great ease to try pieces of furniture. All you have to do is select a piece point camera at a location so AR can do its magic. This way you can see in real-time how a fitment will look in your room. Not only this feature gives you ease in choosing it's also very engaging. So let your imagination run free.

Large Variety:-

Though a lot of shops have a lot of variety of furniture, they can never beat the versatility of an app because apps can literally have all the furniture pieces a company makes and that too in your pocket. These apps can have furniture that is new in the market and which are not available in shops  right now making you one of the first customers to try them.

Reviews:-

Reviews about the furniture make it easy to get the idea of its quality. These reviews can give you an idea of the specific piece is good enough for its price, or if it's cushion material is really what you are looking for. Sometimes these reviews can be misleading too as sometimes they can be written by companies employees to boost their sales, so its a best practice to only looking for reviews that are newest and seem authentic from the perspective of the everyday man.

Filters:-

One of the best features of these apps is their filters. through their filters, you can easily find the fitments that are according to your needs. These filters let you decide on the price of furniture, the size of the furniture. It also let you choose the room in which you want to put it, the style of furniture, the size of the furniture, the color of the furniture and the customer rating of the furniture.

Keeps you up with the trends:-

This one app I tried name Houzz has a timeline-like feature that keeps you updated with the new arrivals. This way you keep up with the trendy furniture and it does not require many efforts either as you only have to check the app once in a few days. This is a real time-saving feature because you don't even have to search it on web, it's just a one-touch away in your phone.

Misplaced AR models

Cons of these apps:- Though these apps are awesome in most of these things they do, they are still lacking in the following things.

1. Bad AR placement:- Sometimes the augmented model is so badly placed in the room that it looks like it is floating in the air, though still use this kind of thing ruins the flavor of trying the furniture and sometimes straight-up annoy the user.

2. Price Difference:- Sometimes price difference can be huge from the market as sometimes the manufacture forgets to update the price in the online database and sometimes they intentionally keep the price on the app high to make the higher-margin profit.

3. Bad 3D Models:- Sometimes the 3D models do not look like the actual product which ultimately leads to confusion of the user. These models also do not show the exact presentation of the fiber of the furniture as they do not have very high resolution mapped occlusion.

4.Lags in low-end devices:- When I tried these applications in my sister's low-end phone(It has 1 GB ram), the application was very lagging and was very difficult to use. Though the models are low poly as common AR apps normally have the framerate was so low that I can not interact with the menu correctly.

5. Bad AR placement:- Sometime the AR placement is very bad and it doesn't seem like that the furniture is really there, it more seems like it's flying. Another thing I've noticed is that sometimes the furniture's scaling so out of proportion that the user does not get the perfect idea of how the furniture will look like when it will be placed in the room.
