How To Make Augmentations Optimal And Less Annoying.

The first thing I would do to make augmented information less annoying is by removing it from the primary gaze of the user because the users only find the information annoying when it obstructs them from watching important real-life things or make them uncomfortable with the huge augmentation. This is how I would deal with these things:-

1. Proper Scaling:-

Proper scaling can lower down the vision obstruction by a whole lot of margin. Sometimes what users see matters more than what users "can" see from the augmentations. For example map, AR applications sometimes tend to show users the augmentations that obstruct their whole view of the real thing. This can be a real bother sometimes as the user can be spooked from the lack of vision and may lose balance sometimes at the turns, so it is really useful to scale the AR augmentations properly.

2. Proper Placement:-

Sometimes augmentations can be so wrongly placed that their presence contributes so less to the experience of the user. The placement of the information is just as important as the information itself. If the augmentations are well placed and the user is seeing them and benefitting from them then that means that the purpose of the augmentations is being completed.

3. The smart balance between real-life objects and augmentations:-

if there is a perfect balance between the real-life objects and AR augmentations only then the user can get the maximum benefit from the AR applications. If the user sees too many augmentations, then it is possible that he loses the track of his location and surroundings and ends up colliding with someone or something, these accidents can be proved really dangerous sometimes so it's really important to keep the good balance between real-life objects and augemnted information.

4. Suitable sound levels:-

Coming to the audio side of things, sometimes audio level can be too low that the user can not listen to it, thus destroying the whole purpose of the auditory augmentations, or sometimes they can be so loud that user can not concentrate into what he's doing or listen to the traffic or people around him. It can be really dangerous with the traffic so the developer must give the great thought to the audio levels of the device. Another thing is that sometimes these auditory augmentations can be in-appropriate for social gatherings and can embarrass the user. For example, if you're in your office meeting and a regular rap song about drugs or violence starts playing. Another example would be when you're at the funeral of someone important and a pop song starts playing.

5. Filters about unwanted information:-

Another thing that I will do is create filter about unwanted information so the user can only see what he wants to see. This feature can also come in handy when the AR device is being used by a child, filtering stuff is also useful to decrease the augmentations in the vision thus making information less confusing and more enlightening. These filters can also save the computations for the GPU thus giving the user an optimal experience. These filters could also support the priority feature thus giving the user the important information when there is an overlap of augmentations.
